W. W. W. HUNTER, druggist of Madera was born in Mariposa in 1864. His father, W. W. Hunter, was a machinist, and emigrated from Pennsylvania to California in 1859, and for years was employed at his trade in the mines of Mariposa, Benton Mills, Washington Mines and Hites' Cove, and also employed in San Francisco and Sacramento for several years. He retired from the business in 1887, and is now living a quiet life in Madera. Our subject was educated in the public schools of Mariposa County, and at Redwood City, San Mateo County, California, and at the age of seventeen years began the study of his profession in the drug store and under the preceptorship of Dr. J. T. Turner, of Mariposa, with whom he remained six years. In 1887 he was engaged as druggist by S. A. Reed & Co., of Mariposa, continuing in their employ until 1890, when he came to Madera and bought out the drug store of Dr. J. T. Surbaugh. Mr. Hunter is well versed in his profession, and the appreciation of the community is substantially demonstrated by his increasing business. The office of Dr. J. W. Cline is connected with the drug store, and the arrangement is of mutual advantage.

    Mr. Hunter was married at Mariposa, August 11, 1886, to Miss Louisa M. Bertosky, and the family has been increased and enlivened by the advent of two daughters, Alena Loretta and Gladys Hilda.
