SHOT AT. – We find the following in the Mariposa Gazette of the 13th
instant:
Supervisor E. O. DARLING, while returning to Bear Valley last Saturday
evening, was shot at by some person with a rifle or pistol–the ball
passing through the side of the buggy in which he was riding and only
missing his head by an inch or two. It was after dark, and DARLING
never
saw his assailant, and has not the remotest idea as to his identity.
The purpose of the would be assassin is unknown DARLING is a man who
has
no personal enemies, and the inducements in the way of plunder are
not
sufficient to justify an attack even upon a full Board of
Supervisors–particularly before they draw their pay. The shot was fired
near the old JENKINS place between Bear Valley and Mount Ophir,
DARLING's team made very good time from that place to Bear Valley.
